Henk W. Volberda is Professor of Strategic Management & Business Policy and also director of Knowledge Transfer at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. Moreover, he is Scientific Director of the Erasmus Centre for Business Innovation. He has been a visiting scholar at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Cass Business School, London and obtained his Ph.D. cum laude in Business Administration of the University of Groningen.

His work on strategic flexibility, coevolution and new organizational forms has led to an extensive number of published articles in academic journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Global Strategy Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of International Business, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Long Range Planning, Management Science, Organization Studies, Organization Science, R&D Management, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and Technology Analysis & Strategic Management.

 His book Building the Flexible Firm: How to Remain Competitive (1998) published by Oxford University Press received wide acclaim and has been translated in many languages. His book Rethinking Strategy (Sage, 2001) was awarded with the ERIM Best Book Award. His international textbook Strategic Management: Competitiveness and Globalization (Cengage, 2011) is used at many European Business Schools. Professor Volberda has received multiple awards for his research on organizational flexibility and strategic change. Recently his new book Re-inventing Business Models: How firms cope with disruption (Oxford University Press, 2018) appeared. He is the recipient of the NCD Award, the ERASM Research Award, the Erasmus University Research Award, the Igor Ansoff Strategic Management Award, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Strategy Award, the ERIM Impact Award, the ERIM Article Award, the SAP Strategy Award, the European Management Review Best Paper Award, and the European Academy of Management Best paper Award. He is a member of the editorial boards of Long Range Planning, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Strategy and Management, Management and Organization Review, Organization Science and Organization Studies. In 2014, 2015, 2016 as well as 2017 he is listed in the “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” and selected as Thompson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher. Henk Volberda is also active in executive education and consulting and has worked with many large European corporations, including ABN Amro, Atos Origin, Air France KLM, BP, Cap Gemini, Coface, DSM, Ericsson, ING, KPN, NXP, Port Authority Rotterdam, Rabobank, Randstad, Schlumberger, Vopak and Shell. He is member of the Supervisory Board of NXP Netherlands and advises several European governmental agencies on innovation policy and economic performance.
